July 13 WNY Driver of The Week: Bill Holmes

Driver: Bill Holmes

Age: 37

Hometown: East Concord

Division: Crate Late Models/Genesee Speedway

Lowdown: Bill is a veteran campaigner who has won races and championships in every division he has raced in since he began driving in 1997, including Street Stocks, Super Stocks/360 Late Models and Crate Late Models. He took four years off from competition from 2007 through 2010 due to family commitments. Holmes is most grateful to both sets of his grandparents, Parker and Barb Price and Bill and Ester Holmes, as well as current car owner Ron Scharf for providing much financial and moral support.

Accomplishments: Holmes competed in Street Stocks for three years, emerging as the 1999 Street Stock champion at Freedom Motorsports Park by winning seven races there that season. Holmes then went to the Super Stock/360 Late Model division, winning two championships each at Freedom, McKean County Raceway and Little Valley Speedway. Holmes moved on to the Crate Late Models four seasons ago in a family-owned car before signing on with Scharf three years ago. In 2016, the Holmes/Scharf team won two races at Freedom and a single tally at Genesee, earning the Crate Late Model title at Freedom.

Favorite Food: Cheeseburgers and fries.

Favorite Music: "Country tunes while riding in my pickup truck."

Hobbies: Running the family dairy farm with wife Jill Holmes. Also enjoys spending time with their two children, Hannah, 9 and Will, 5. Holmes' children currently run Go-Karts on the family driveway.
