Payless ShoeSource is closing stores in the Northtown Plaza and Lockport.
The stores join five others in Erie and Niagara counties that previously were marked for closure.
Payless filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April and immediately announced the closing of 400 stores nationwide as part of its reorganization plan. The five store closings announced at that time were: Mid-City Plaza in North Tonawanda; 5999 South Park Ave. in Hamburg; Aurora Village Shopping Center in East Aurora; Eastgate Plaza in Amherst; and Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence.
The company has since added its stores in the Northtown Plaza, 3049 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, and in the Tops Mall, 5849 S. Transit Road, Lockport, to the list. The seven stores all will close by the end of July, said Meghan Spreer, a Payless spokeswoman.
Further, a store in Dunkirk's Vineyard Plaza, 3694 Vineyard Road, remains threatened with closure pending ongoing negotiations.
