The Lancaster Village Board and Lancaster Fire Department Chief James S. Volpe Monday night commended the heroic actions of an off-duty Depew firefighter during a recent fire on Central Avenue.
Early on the morning of June 29, firefighter Marc Adamberger reported a structure fire in a building occupied by Happy Tails Doggie Day Care at 36 Central Ave., Volpe told Village Board members during the regular meeting.
"Firefighter Adamberger after reporting the fire ran into an extremely dangerous situation and made his way to the second floor awakening the residents of the two upper apartments," said Volpe. "Adamberger's heroic actions of getting the residents to safety greatly affected the positive outcome of this situation."
Firefighters from Twin District and Depew assisted Lancaster in controlling the fire.
"It is thanks to all these men and women that we are currently watching the reconstruction of the structure instead of its demolition," Volpe said.
