Buffalo Zoo introduces baby Japanese macaque

The Buffalo Zoo announced Tuesday the birth of a Japanese macaque born June 22.

The baby macaque, also known as a snow monkey, is male and is the offspring of mother Debbie and father Ketu.

"Debbie does keep him close by and tight to her chest," said zoo spokesman, Christian Dobosiewicz.

The zoo is asking the public to help pick the little guy's name with the help of, naturally, surveymonkey.com.

The name choices are:

  • Koji (pronounced KOH-jee) which means "little one"
  • Ryuu (Re-oo) "dragon"
  • Akio (AH-kee-oh) "bright boy"
  • Raiden (RAY-din) "god of thunder"
