Nobody home for Lockport house fire

A fire damaged a two-family home in Lockport early Sunday morning, according to the city fire department.

Flames were seen coming from the back of the second-story of 61 Elmwood Ave., where firefighters arrived at 12:19 a.m., the fire department said.

Firefighters used dry chemical fire extinguishers to contain the fire until the power company was able to shut off electricity to the home.

No one was home in the downstairs apartment at the time the fire erupted and the upper apartment was vacant. Damage was estimated at more than $13,000, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
