Luis Santos spun a gem on the mound and Buffalo Bisons offense came alive Friday night in a 5-0 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium.
The win snapped a three-game skid for the Herd, but the team has still lost 27 of its last 34 games.
Santos pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning.
Five players had multi-hit games led by Dwight Smith Jr. and Gregorio Petit who had three hits apiece. Jason Leblebijian, Rowdy Tellez and Raffy Lopez each had two hits.
In all, the Herd had 16 hits.
Early offense: The Bisons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Leblebijian and Petit each had RBI singles. The lead went to 3-0 in the third when Tellez had an RBI double.
Bases loaded: The Bisons added to their lead in the fifth when they loaded the bases with one out, but only got one run out of it. Tellez walked followed by singles from Lopez and Petit. A ground out by Shane Opitz scored Tellez for a 4-0 lead. With runners on second and third Ian Parmley struck out to end the inning.
One more: Michael Saunders had an RBI single in the sixth as the Herd's lead grew to 5-0.
In relief: Wil Browing pitched two scoreless innings giving up one walk and one hit with three strikeouts.
