A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Dunkirk on Thursday, city police said.
Rebecca Ruiz of Dunkirk was charged with second-degree murder after a man was shot outside her home on Lake Shore Drive East around 10 p.m. Thursday, Dunkirk police said.
Officers said they arrived at Ruiz's home following reports of a gunshot victim and found a man lying unresponsive in the yard. Police said Ruiz intended to shoot Walter Duprey but, instead, the gunshot hit Julian Duman, who was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Dunkirk police said.
Dunkirk Police Sgt. Mark Gruber told The Buffalo News investigators were trying to confirm the nature of Ruiz's relationship to the victim. "I believe they did know each other," Gruber said.
Ruiz was arraigned Friday in Dunkirk City Court and remanded without bail to the Chautauqua County Jail.
