Main Street medians
So last year, City Hallways told you about an ongoing public discussion over whether the Main Street medians should stay or go.
Some considered them an eyesore and a hazard.
Others said they're safety tools to help protect pedestrians from getting hit by vehicles.
In a City Hallways poll that was posted last October, a majority of you – 50 percent – said they should stay.
They did and were supposed to be fixed up. But a quick jaunt down Main Street showed that many of those median strips could use a little more repair.
On several of them, the yellow strips have started to peel off. There's busted-up concrete on one or two.
But none of the ones I saw seemed to look as bad as they did last year – like this one near Hertel Avenue:
Temporary move from the temporary location
If you were wondering what happened to Food Truck Thursdays yesterday, don’t despair. The lunchtime favorite is not over.
There's a simple explanation. The trucks were parked at a different location – at Niagara and Franklin streets.
City Hall staffers tell me the venue change was for Thursday only. Next week the trucks will motor back over to West Genesee Street next to Statler Towers.
The midday meals event usually is held at Niagara Square downtown. But because of a restoration project going on at the McKinley Monument, the mobile restaurants have been moved temporarily to the Genesee location. The restoration project is expected to be finished by Sept. 6.
