Amherst's Board of Assessment Review has issued decisions on 2,950 grievances filed by property owners who thought their assessments were set too high this year during the townwide reassessment of 44,000 parcels.
The grievances came from owners of 1,043 condominium units in 32 condo complexes and 1,930 other residential properties, said Amherst Town Assessor Dave Marrano.
The board reduced assessments in about half of the non-condo cases, Marrano said. But assessments were reduced on only one of the 32 condo complexes, which are valued as a whole, according to state law.
The owners were notified last week of the board's determinations.
The final assessment roll has been posted on the town's website amherst.ny.us, where residents can click on "Comprehensive Property Information" for updated numbers.
Property owners still unhappy with their new assessment can still file a Small Claims Assessment Review to challenge it in court. Information about that process is online at nycourts.gov/litigants/scar.
