It will be a prospect-palooza for Sabres fans starting Saturday in HarborCenter, as all 16 players the team has drafted in the last two years are scheduled to attend the team's summer development camp according to the roster released Thursday. All practices in the four-day camp are open to the public, beginning Saturday at 2 p.m.
It will be the first look at the 2017 draft class, highlighted by first-round pick Casey Mittelstadt and second-rounders Marcus Davidsson, both centers, as well as second-round goaltender Ukko-Pekka-Luukkonen. Defensemen Oskari Laaksonen and Jacob Bryson, as well as winger Linus Weissbach will also be on hand.
The 10-player class of 2016 was headlined by first-round pick Alexander Nylander, who spent most of last season in Rochester and then made his NHL debut with Buffalo over the final four games of the season. High-scoring forwards Rasmus Asplund, scheduled to play again in Sweden this year, and London Knights standout Cliff Pu will also return.
Nylander is one of seven players on the camp roster who has seen NHL time with the Sabres. The others are Brendan Guhle, Justin Bailey, Nick Baptiste, Hudson Fasching, Sean Malone and C.J. Smith.
The goals of the camp are to introduce prospective players to professional work habits and organizational standards. The players will have an opportunity to become familiar with the resources available to them through the Sabres development staff and performance team.
Practices Saturday run from 2-3:30 and 4-5:30. The players will be on the ice Sunday morning from 10-11:15 a.m., and again from 2-3:15 p.m. Monday's times are 10:30-11:45 a.m. and 1:45-3 p.m.
The camp wraps up Tuesday with the annual 3-on-3 tournament for the French Connection Cup. That begins at 9:15 a.m.
