SIGHTS AND SOUNDS – The Amherst Youth and Recreation Department kicks off its free outdoor summer concert series at 7 p.m. tonight in the Bassett Park Amphitheater at Klein and Youngs roads. On stage will be the Kokomo Band with light rock.
Amherst’s Friday Night Family Flicks also begin this week. Free movies on a giant inflatable screen will be shown at 9 p.m. Fridays in July (8:30 p.m. in August) on the lawn outside the Clearfield Community Center, 730 Hopkins Road. If it rains, the films move inside. First up is the 2016 space opera “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

CALENDAR DATE – The Woman’s Club of Orchard Park, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, will hold its annual picnic at 2 p.m. next Wednesday in the home of club president Terry Siuta.

CHURCH NOTE – The annual Solemn Public Novena in honor of Our Blessed Lady of Mount Carmel begins Saturday in the Monastery of the Little Flower of Jesus, 75 Carmel Road, and closes on the feast day July 16.
Rev. Joseph Campbell of the Diocese of Erie, Pa., will lead services opening with the Rosary at 7 p.m., followed by Mass. All who attend are asked to be modestly and suitably dressed. There will be no benediction services on Sunday.

ERIN GO BRAGH – The Buffalo Irish Center and the Irish Cultural & Folk Art Association of Western New York are holding a contest to inspire a design for a mural honoring Irish heritage. The winner will receive a $200 prize.
The contest is open to artists 16 and older. All artwork must be submitted on 11 by 17-inch paper, signed by the artist and by a parent or guardian for those under the age of 18. Deadline for entries is Aug. 14.
Applications are available at the Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road, or via email from Mary Heneghan at Mary@buffaloirishcenter.com. Works may be displayed at the Buffalo Irish Festival Aug. 25 to 27 or printed in the Buffalo Irish Times.

FOUR IN ONE – The Classes of 1947, 1952, 1962 and 1967 will celebrate their respective reunions at the 26th annual Kensington High School Alumni Association picnic from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 in Banchetti by Rizzo’s banquet grove, 550 North French Road, Getzville.
Cost is $20. Only pre-paid reservations will be accepted. Deadline is July 23. For more information and reservations, call Connie Severson at 668-1455.
