ANTOLENA - Rita M. (nee Citta)
Of Amherst, passed away July 2, 2017, beloved wife of the late Anthony "Tony" M. Antolena. She was born in Buffalo to the late Thomas and Nina Citta. She is survived by her sisters Joanne (Robert) Waite of South Carolina and Louise (late Robert) Hochreiter of Williamsville. She was predeceased by her siblings Fina and Thomas Citta, Jr. Rita graduated with a degree in physical education from the University of Buffalo and began teaching at the Forestville Central Schools where she remained for five years and then taught in the North Tonawanda School District for 31 years retiring in 1991. Rita was a girl scout counselor and along with her friend Gerry Sartori took the troop on an Annual Round Up. Rita and her husband enjoyed traveling and were able to visit Europe, Africa, China, Mexico, Canada, Iceland and many areas in the US. She continued to travel after the death of her husband to India and Egypt. When asked which country she enjoyed the most, she replied "I liked them all". A lover of music and the theater, Rita was an avid volunteer at Shea's, Artpark, the Buffalo Philharmonic, Irish Classical, Kavinoky, T.O.Y. and the UB Center for the Arts. Rita was a fun loving person who enjoyed her outings and lunches with a retired teacher groups and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 7 PM at the GRECO FUNERAL HOME, 2909 Elmwood Avenue. Family and friends are invited to assemble Friday at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Christopher RC Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda and will be followed by interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the Girl Scouts Buffalo Chapter. Share condolences online at
