Unyts issued an urgent appeal Tuesday for type O-negative blood donations, citing a serious shortage of the blood type at area hospitals.
"The local supply of type O-negative blood has reached an extremely low level due to traumas over the weekend, and Unyts is in need of help from the community to restore inventory to normal levels," a statement released by Unyts said.
The area's sole community blood bank urges donors to donate at any of its neighborhood blood donation centers at any time between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Appointments can be made at www.unyts.org or by calling 716-512-7940. Walk-ins are also welcome.
