TELLING TALES – “It’s Okay to be Different” is this week’s theme for EPIC (Every Person Influences Children) Storytime from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Canalside for children up to age 8 and their families.
Featured reader will be Amy Jakiel from People Inc., who will read from the book “It’s Okay to be Different” by Todd Parr. A question session about disabilities and difference will follow, featuring a special puppet familiar with being different. There also will be a craft project.

NO ICE REQUIRED – Applications from teams are being accepted for the Buffalo Storm 2017 Outdoor Street Hockey Festival on Aug. 5 and 6 on the street hockey courts in the Losson (Stiglmeier), Dingens and North Creek parks in Cheektowaga.
Teams can be co-ed and will play in five youth divisions and one adult division. Teams will have a maximum of six players, including a goalie. All players will need a helmet, gloves, a stick and sneakers.
Entry fee is $125 for all-Cheektowaga teams, $145 for teams with non-residents. Each player gets a game T-shirt with a number on the back. Championship and player prizes will be given. Deadline for applying is July 16. For more info, call Tony Pierino at 867-8349, email him at or visit

FORE! – Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School will host the annual Jim Hillery ‘51 Green & Gold Golf Tournament on July 24 at Brierwood Country Club, 5324 Rogers Road, Hamburg. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with a buffet lunch at 11:30, a shotgun start at 1 p.m., open bar at 5 p.m. and a steak dinner at 6. There will be tests of skill throughout the day.
