Pedestrian struck and killed in North Tonawanda identified

A pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle late Monday night on River Road in North Tonawanda was identified as Donald Miller, 46, of the city, city police said Wednesday.

Miller was struck near Fisherman's Park where family told police he often liked to go to take photos of the sunrise and sunset.

Investigators believe Miller was crossing River Road and didn't seen an oncoming car when he was hit.

The driver of the car, Michael Schettig, 18, also of North Tonawanda, immediately called 911 and stayed at the scene. The windshield of his vehicle was shattered by the impact.

No charges are being filed against the driver, police said Wednesday.
