Motorcyclist in Chautauqua County crash dies

SILVER CREEK – A motorcyclist injured in a crash Monday in Hanover has died, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office reported.

Michael Shoemaker, 60 of Buffalo, died from injuries he sustained at about 4:30 p.m. Monday when he collided with a vehicle on Route 20. Deputies said Shoemaker, no age or address given, was airlifted by Starflight to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. He was pronounced dead at Erie County Medical Center the same day.

The Sheriff's Office said the other driver, Tammy L. Mays, 48, of Old Main Road, Silver Creek, was charged with failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

Shoemaker was one of two people hurt in accidents Monday afternoon on Route 20.

A driver whose vehicle overturned after she rear-ended another vehicle shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Route 20 in the Town of Sheridan suffered minor injuries and was transported by Alstar to a hospital for treatment, deputies reported. Lisa A. Weisedel, 51, of Woode Avenue, North Collins, was charged with following too closely.
