Frontier Central Superintendent Bret Apthorpe has been named superintendent at Jamestown Public Schools.
Apthorpe, a native of Mayville, will start Sept. 1.
He was hired at Frontier three years ago from Fairport Central, where he was assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Jamestown and Frontier are similar in size. Apthorpe has overseen about 4,800 students and an $84.1 million budget at Frontier, while Jamestown has about 4,700 students and an $84.94 million budget.
The Frontier School Board is expected to accept Apthorpe's resignation at its reorganization and regular business meeting Thursday, which will start at 5 p.m. at the Frontier Education Center, 5120 Orchard Ave. The board is expected to go into executive session immediately, and the reorganization meeting is expected to start at 6 p.m. The board will hold hearings on its code of conduct and district safety plan at 6:30 p.m., and the business meeting is expected to resume about 7 p.m.
