Beer news: Flying Bison, CBW, Four Mile

Corn hole, music and more at Flying Bison

Flying Bison Brewing Company (840 Seneca St.) will be hosting its Thirsty Thursday Corn Hole Tournament from 6 to 8 p.m. July 6, and every following Thursday until September.

The tournament costs $10 per person per day, which gets participants three beers of their choice, and a chance to win a free growler and fill (per person for the winning team). If interested, the brewery is requesting people to RSVP on its Facebook event page to facilitate organization.

The brewery also will present the Bobby Militello Quartet at 5 p.m. July 10. Admission is $10 ($5 for students). The brewery will only be providing light snacks, so it suggests bringing more substantial dinner food if desired. This is part of a concert series taking place on the second Monday of every month. Call 873-1557.

Community Beer Works extends hours

Community Beer Works (15 Lafayette Ave.) is extending its taproom days and hours. The full set of new hours is: 3 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; noon to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

CBW will also release a new raspberry sour beer on July 8. This 6.4 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) American wild ale was conditioned on loads of fresh raspberries, and fermented with a mixture of Brettanomyces (wild yeast) and Lactobacillus (souring bacteria like that which is found in yogurt). The result is a refreshing warm-weather beverage with remarkable complexity. Call 759-4677.

Four Mile Brew fest

Four Mile Brewing (202 E. Green St., Olean), is holding its second annual Enchanted Mountains Brew Fest from 2 to 6 p.m. July 15. Four Mile will host more than 20 breweries, as well as a cidery and winery, from the region during the event. The brewfest also will feature live music and an after party.

Presale tickets are $35 and $40 at the door. Designated drivers may attend for $10. A ticket includes tastings from each brewery and a souvenir glass. Call 373-2337.

Shatzel Group Presents Groove is in the Park

The summer music continues with Groove is in the Park from 6 to 11 p.m. July 21 at The Terrace at Delaware Park (199 Lincoln Parkway), with numerous funk and groove bands including C.O. Jones. Admission is $20, with a VIP option for $75 which offers exclusive patio access, food and open bar. Tickets are available at

Food will be supplied by Shatzel Group’s numerous restaurants (Coles, Colter Bay, Allen Burger Venture, Liberty Hound and The Terrace), and beer will be supplied by Thin Man Brewery. Call 886-0089.
