Buffalo police arrested Leon Dunston, 65, Sunday morning for allegedly hitting a woman's hand with a hammer to prevent her from dialing 911.
Police did not say why Dunston wanted to prevent her from making the call. While the hammer attack caused swelling, the woman refused medical attention.
In an earlier hammer incident, Edward Taveras-Ortiz and Gilda Aquino, both 26, were arrested on Gold Street about 7 p.m. Friday after allegedly hitting a man with a hammer.
Police said the two entered the man's house and proceeded to kick him in the head and body. Eventually a hammer was involved in the incident. After flashing a black nine millimeter handgun at him, they left the scene in a car.
The victim, Miguel Irizarry, 47, sustained serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center.
Police also reported an assault that occurred on Vanderbilt Street shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday.
Officers said that Jermaine Clemons, 32, allegedly strangled and punched a woman, causing bruising on her face, and the woman reportedly stabbed Clemons in self defense.
