Public invited to anti-violence forum, set for Wednesday

In response to two recent shootings in Buffalo, one of which claimed the life of an 18-year-old, a community forum has been planned to address the issue of violence in the city.

Erie County Legislator and Buffalo mayoral candidate Betty Jean Grant and We Are Women Warriors, a family and community empowerment group, will host the forum from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Frank E. Merriweather Jr. Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave.

The forum is open to the public. Grant and the Women Warriors also have invited Mayor Byron W. Brown and other elected officials to attend, along with Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda and members of the city's anti-violence groups.

The emergency community forum, called “An Agenda and Action Plan to End the Violence within our Community,” is intended to both inform and solicit ideas aimed at curbing violent interactions in the city.
