A dentist who police say posed online as a woman to solicit a 13-year-old Texas boy to perform sexual acts on camera was arrested Thursday in Amherst following an investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Gregg J. Riess, 27, a former University at Buffalo student who is a dentist in New York City, was charged with felony counts of use of a child in a sexual performance and possession of sexual performance by a child.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip about someone posing as a woman going by the screen name of "Shanaosexy” or “Shanaoxexxyy” in September 2015. The person allegedly solicited the Texas boy to perform sex acts on camera and to send the images.
In March 2016, the center reached out to State Police, which began investigating. The following month, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Capen Boulevard in Amherst. At the time, Riess was attending the UB School of Dental Medicine, police said. He now works as a dentist in the Bronx.
State police said Friday there may be more victims and asked anyone with more information to call investigators at (585) 344-6200.
