The Albany Symphony will perform a free concert on a barge anchored in the Erie Canal locks in Lockport at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 8, wrapping up the orchestra's statewide tour to mark the 200th anniversary of the canal.
The performance is the last concert of a tour in which the orchestra will play in a different city on seven consecutive nights, premiering a new canal-themed work at each concert. The program also will include Handel's "Water Music" and a set of patriotic favorites, and will be followed by fireworks.
The Lockport concert will conclude a full day of public events in the city, including the Kenan Center's 50th anniversary party from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the 13th annual Lockport in Bloom garden walk, as well canal-themed bicentennial events.
In case of rain, the concert will be moved to Lockport High School.
