1 taken to hospital after 6-vehicle rush-hour crash snarled traffic on I-190 South

A Niagara Falls man was hospitalized after a six-vehicle "chain reaction" crash on one of the north Grand Island bridges Friday morning, the Grand Island Fire Co. said.

The crash closed both lanes of the Interstate-190 Southbound heading onto Grand Island from Niagara Falls during the peak morning commute.

Leonard Lingski, 51, was treated on-scene by a Tri-Community Ambulance crew and taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for a precautionary follow-up, the fire company said. Eight other people were evaluated at the scene and declined hospitalization.

Both traffic lanes were closed before 8 a.m. with the right lane reopening at about 8:15 a.m. and the left lane at about 8:45 a.m., according to the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition.

Traffic was backed up on the highway to the Niagara Falls Boulevard exit in Niagara Falls. The crash was reported at about 7:30 a.m., according to NITTEC.
