Three Western New Yorkers win journalism scholarships

Three undergraduates have won awards from the Greater Buffalo Chapter’s Society of Professional Journalists College Scholarship Fund.

Waverly Colville of Orchard Park will be a senior at the University of Missouri. She is interning at CNBC in New York City and previously interned at WGRZ-TV and WBFO, among other outlets.

Max Kalnitz will be a junior at the University at Buffalo where he has been a senior arts editor at The Spectrum, the student-run publication. The North Buffalo resident has written articles ranging from investigative pieces to stories about arts and culture.

Austin J. Rexinger will be a senior at Canisius College where he will be multimedia director for The Griffin, the student-run publication. The Amherst resident is  interning at the Boston Globe and has written for national and regional publications, including Buffalo Rising.

This is the 39th year the organization has given scholarships, awarding more than $120,000 since the late 1970s.
