Williamsville is officially a Clean Energy Community.
The state conferred the title on the village for its efforts to reduce energy use, cut costs and promote renewable energy.
The village completed four of 10 high-impact clean energy actions identified by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority as part of the initiative.
To earn the designation, the village compiled utility usage data from municipal buildings, trained village officials in the state's energy code and adopted the state's unified solar permit to make residential solar panel installation easier. An electric vehicle was also purchased for the Village Code Enforcement officials’ use.
The village is now eligible to apply for up to $50,000 toward additional clean energy projects.
