Jeffrey Sortisio, principal at Frontier Central High School, has been named superintendent of the Fredonia Central School District.
Sortisio, who has been principal since 2008, will start his new job July 21, when interim Superintendent Laura Pless steps down. Paul DiFonzo retired in March after 14 years as superintendent.
“When looking for another new challenge in my career, it was important for me to find a district that values relationships as much as it does a high-quality education. I think I have found that in Fredonia,” Sortisio said, according to the Fredonia district website.
Enrollment at the Fredonia district is 1,450, while Sortisio presides over an enrollment of about 1,400 at Frontier High School.
Frontier Superintendent Bret Apthorpe said the district would post the open principal's position, and would spend July seeking candidates. If the right person cannot be found in a month, he said the district would likely appoint an interim principal.
