A firearms safety event with representatives from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms will be held at 11 a.m. July 8 at Empact America of New York, 7615 Seneca St., East Aurora.
Topics to be covered include gun safety for new and existing gun owners and information on Second Amendment rights.
The event is being sponsored by Rep. Chris Collins, who made news when he said that he would carry his concealed handgun at events in his district after the shooting of a congressional colleague and four others during a Republican practice for a charity softball game two weeks ago. In announcing the event, Collins said gun owners must "take responsibility for our safety and the safety of those around us."
Space for the July 8 session is limited. For more information or to RSVP, call Collins' Lancaster district office at 634-2324, send an email to NY27Events@mail.house.gov, or visit https://ny27-firearm-safety-event.eventbrite.com/.
