Buffalo firefighters rescued a person from a fourth-floor balcony during a fire inside a 12-story apartment building on Elmwood Avenue on Monday morning.
The fire broke out shortly before 4 a.m. in the Elmwood Square Apartments, at Elmwood and West Utica Street, according to the Buffalo Fire Department Alarm Office.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the unit where the fire began, according to the alarm office. The person rescued from the balcony and the resident who lived in the apartment above the unit where the fire started were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
Damage was estimated at $750,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross was called to help two adults.
