Driver gets year and a half in prison for drunken crash that paralyzed a man

A Buffalo man was sentenced to a year and a half in prison for a drunken driving crash that paralyzed another driver.

Kevin Reyome, 55, was sentenced by Erie County Judge Kenneth F. Case on Friday. In March, Reyome pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular assault and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.

Shortly after midnight on Sept. 16, Reyome drove his pickup into the back of a vehicle that was stopped at a red light on Harlem Road in Cheektowaga. The driver of that vehicle, John Reinard, 37, of Buffalo was left paralyzed from the waist down due to injuries from the crash.

Reyome drove away but was quickly apprehended. His blood alcohol level measured 0.14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit.

Case also ordered Reyome's vehicle to be fitted with an ignition interlock device and required Reyome to speak to the Victim's Impact Panel.
