Pending thunderstorms carry marginal risk for gusty winds

Thunderstorms expected to hit Western New York this afternoon and tonight carry a marginal risk of becoming severe with gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

The region will face a chance of rain most of Friday, with the likeliest period from about 7 to 9 p.m., the weather service said. The rain will come through ahead of a cold front, though today's high temperatures are predicted in the mid 70s.

The temperature at Buffalo Niagara International Airport just before 6 a.m. was 75 degrees.
