TEMPUS FUGIT – Friday is the deadline for reservations for the Northtown Christian Women’s Connection Dessert Buffet Social, which will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Road at Harlem Road, Amherst.
Dave and Gina Joseph will give a presentation on “Passing Time: The History of Clocks Throughout History,” followed by Jenny Hammond speaking about her inspirational memoir, “Tales From the Norwegian Woods.” Cost is $8. Call 775-5002 or 836-4525.

CARNIVAL TIME – A giant parade at 2 p.m. Saturday and fireworks at dusk Saturday are highlights of the West Seneca Civic and Patriotic Commission’s annual Community Days in Veterans Memorial Park behind West Seneca Town Hall, 1250 Union Road.
Festivities begin Friday evening with an amusement ride special from 6 to 10 p.m. and the band Impact in the beer tent from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday’s schedule, from noon to midnight, also includes a ride special from 3 to 7 p.m., the Lancaster Carnival Kids Steel Orchestra from 4 to 6 p.m. and the band Hit ‘N Run in the beer tent from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

FIND A FRIEND – More than 10 rescue groups will offer cats and dogs for adoption at the Cause for the Paws Pet Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Williamsville Depot, 86 S. Long St. There also will be 15 vendors with crafts and other items, plus a Krolick’s chicken barbecue. Admission is free.
“It is kitten season,” says Ten Lives Club founder Marie Edwards, “and hundreds of kittens are available now for adoption.” For more info, call 646-5577.

NATURE’S WONDERS – Six different week-long topics will be featured this summer in the Nature Explorers Art and Science Camp at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens in South Park. Youngsters who have finished kindergarten through sixth grade will explore the Botanical Gardens, do art projects, compete in games and create things to take home.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, beginning with Wild Wacky Water Week on July 10 and ending with Woodland Adventures Week, which closes Aug. 18.
