SUNY trustees appoint Hocoy as 11th ECC president

The State University of New York trustees appointed Dan Hocoy as 11th president of Erie Community College during a trustees meeting in Albany Wednesday afternoon.

Dennis P. Murphy, chairman of the ECC board of trustees, introduced Hocoy as "the right person, ladies and gentleman, at the right time" to succeed Jack F. Quinn Jr.

Hocoy, 49, currently is associate vice chancellor for advancement in the Antioch University System. He has spent most of his academic career on the West Coast. But Hocoy told the SUNY trustees he has family near Western New York and considers the move a "real homecoming for me."

"In joining Erie Community College I will be close to family and I will be serving a region I call home," said Hocoy. "And it will allow me to make the biggest impact on the greatest number of people, because few colleges have as significant an impact on its community and state as Erie Community College."

Hocoy is slated to start July 1 and will make an annual salary of $225,000.
