Frontier Central School Board members approved a 2 percent raise for Superintendent Bret Apthorpe Tuesday night, the first raise he's had in two years.
Apthorpe was given a three-year contract when he was hired in 2014. The following year the board extended his contract and gave him a raise, while last year the board did not increase the superintendent's salary or extend his contract.
Apthorpe will be paid $171,666 in the next school year, which starts July 1. Board President Janet MacGregor Plarr said the board and Apthorpe are still negotiating other terms of a new contract.
"I have another year on my contract," Apthorpe said.
The board recognized 24 retiring staffers, including nine teachers and two administrators Tuesday night, and hired 12 teachers. Nancy Racine, district clerk and superintendent's secretary, also is retiring this year. Plarr said the board hopes to name a replacement soon. Racine will retire July 18.
