Sleeping mother charged with leaving children outside motel in freezing weather

A Batavia woman faces a child endangerment charge after authorities said she left her two small children outside in freezing weather this past February without adequate clothing.

Temperatures were in the low 20s on the morning of Feb. 1, which is when Tesla R. Plantiko, 25, is accused of having left the two children unsupervised outside the Mark Trail Motel on West Main Street Road, the Genesee County Sheriff's Office said.

Plantiko was inside the motel at the time sleeping, according to the Sheriff's Office.

She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Batavia Town Court.

Plantiko was arrested late last year on several drug charges in Batavia, according to the Batavia Daily News.

She was reported to police after she was in the restroom of a downtown business for more than two hours, the Daily News reported. The disposition of that case could not immediately be determined.
