Kevin Hart has become a comedy superstar and has used his fame to turn the spotlight on the up-and-coming Plastic Cup Boyz. The group, comprised of Jonathan Martin, Spank Horton and Na’im Lynn, have toured as the opening act for Hart. The Plastic Cup Boyz are now bringing their sketches, impressions and comedy as headliners at Helium Comedy Club (30 Mississippi) from June 23 to 25. Watch their special on Netflix, then catch one of their five Helium shows at 7:30 and 10 p.m. June 23-24, and 7 p.m. June 25. Tickets range from $22-$25. Info: buffalo.heliumcomedy.com
Pete Johansson returns to Rob’s Comedy Playhouse (1340 North Forest Road) for a show at 8 p.m. June 24. The Canadian comic has appeared on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” and CBS’s “The Late Late Show.” He’s also become a top act in his native country with appearances on Canadian comedy shows and sets at the “Just for Laughs” festival, a highlight for the industry. A night of entertainment can be expensive. But Edge Comedy Night at Helium Comedy Club offers audiences a chance to catch top local talent at a low price. This month’s June 28 show features headlining comedian Rick Matthews, a past winner of “Buffalo’s Funniest Person” contest, along with 103.3 FM personalities James Kurdziel and Josh Potter.
