MROCZYNSKI, Esther (Matla)

Aged 82, died June 16 after a long battle with breast cancer. Born in Buffalo, NY, Esther was the daughter of the late Anthony and Helen Matla of Lackawanna, NY. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Joseph Mroczynski; two daughters, Susan Mroczynski Valentino of Warren, NJ and Molly Ann Mroczynski of Pasadena, CA. She is predeceased by her loving daughter, Amy Mroczynski Simons of Atlanta, GA. Esther attended Lackawanna High School, and earned her nursing degree at the E.J. Meyer Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Buffalo. She held the position of head nurse at Buffalo General Hospital for 10 years. Esther and her husband were long standing members of the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation. She also volunteered at the Nichols School, was a member of the former Town Club of the Tonawandas and was actively involved with her local cancer support group. Esther and Joseph loved to travel, their adventures took them all throughout the United States and Mexico, relaxing in the warmth of the Caribbean islands, exploring throughout Europe, Greece, Israel and Turkey. Her five grandchildren - Carl, Olivia, Sophie, Michael and Anna - always brought her great joy. In each she instilled her love of music, adventure and travel. Esther is also survived by her sister, Lorraine (Matla) Kuhn and her husband Allen J. Kuhn, and predeceased by her brother Robert Matla. The family would like to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness, especially the doctors and staff at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Buffalo Hospice. Friends may call from 2-6 PM on Monday, June 19 at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Tuesday at St. Christopher's Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Tonawanda. Monsignor Francis G. Weldgen will officiate.
