It was not a good day for the higher seeds at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville on Saturday.
Both of them lost in three-set matches of the semifinals as the Sargent & Collins LLP Men’s $15,000 Futures Tournament moved toward its climax, which will take place on Sunday.
Unseeded Alex Rybakov of Coral Springs, Fla., got better as he went along in his match against third-seeded Dennis Nevolo of Gurnee, Ill. Rybakov dropped the first set, 2-6, but came back to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Next up is Naoki Nakagawa of Japan. The fourth seed defeated No. 2 Kaichi Uchida of Japan, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, in the second semifinal. Nakagawa won the U.S. Open boys doubles title in 2014, while Uchida won this tournament in 2015.
The final at the Tennis Center will be held at noon Sunday. There is no charge for admission.
