Man charged with stealing pavers from Tonawanda transportation hub site

A Wheatfield man was charged Thursday night with trying to steal 129 decorative pavers from the site of the planned "intermodal hub" on Young Street in the City of Tonawanda, police said.

Howard J. Brubaker, 50, of Errick Road, told police he was told by his boss to pick up the items, but he later admitted that was a lie, City of Tonawanda police said.

Police responded to the scene at about 8 p.m. for a report of suspicious activity. Brubaker had loaded the pavers from the fenced construction site in his van.

He was charged with third-degree criminal trespass and petit larceny and held pending a court appearance, police said.
