Political newcomer to skip mayoral primary, run in November

Buffalo mayoral candidate Taniqua Simmons has changed her mind about running in the Sept. 12 Democratic primary against incumbent Byron W. Brown, City Comptroller Mark J.F. Schroeder and Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant.

Instead, Simmons – a political newcomer – said she intends to run in the general election as the endorsed candidate of the Erie County Libertarian Party. She met earlier this week with party leaders to discuss her campaign and strategy.

Meanwhile, Terrence Robinson, a member of the Buffalo Preservation Board, will run in the general election on the Green Party line.

Robinson is a founding member of Preservation Buffalo Niagara and defined his political agenda as “neo-progressive.” He has outlined his priorities as: transparent government, environmental awareness and sound stewardship, fair access to opportunities for education, and employment and investment for every resident and neighborhood in the city.
