Niagara Falls sex offender imprisoned for charging at cop with a box cutter

Rafael Morales of Niagara Falls, a Level 3 sex offender, will be making his third trip to state prison, this time for brandishing a box cutter as he charged a police officer Jan. 13.

The incident occurred at the 12th Street home of Morales, 58. Falls police reported that they were summoned to the home because a man was cutting himself with a box cutter, and when they arrived, Morales charged at one of the officers yelling, "You're going to have to shoot me."

One of the officers drew his gun, but his partner felled Morales with a Taser.

Morales' record includes a 10-year prison term for a 1992 attempted first-degree sodomy conviction, resulting from incidents involving an 8-year-old girl in Niagara Falls. He also served five years for attempted burglary in the wake of a 2004 break-in on Walnut Avenue in the Falls.
