Developer changes Sweet Home Road plans to appease neighbors

A developer who planned to build a three-story apartment complex on Sweet Home Road in Amherst has reconfigured the project into single-story townhomes in an effort to appease neighbors who opposed the original design.

Robert A. Savarino of RAS Development has filed with the town a third version of the project that now includes 11 four- and three-unit, owner-occupied condominiums on the 12-acre site at 2360 Sweet Home Road,  just north of North Ellicott Creek Road.

The first version included 79 units of apartments in two buildings. A second version had 85 units in a single building that created more distance between the apartments and neighbors.

Developer amends Amherst apartment proposal in response to resident comments

But residents continued to raise concerns at Amherst Planning Board meetings. Savarino met with them regularly and, in response, made the final change that will be reviewed by the Planning Board at a meeting Thursday, June 15.

The Town Board also must vote to rezone a portion of the property.
