St. Joe's topped Canisius, 4-0, in the Niagara Cup hockey championship at KeyBank Center on Feb. 27. It was the Marauders' fifth Niagara Cup championship in seven years and 12th WNY Varsity Hockey Federation playoff title since the 1990-91 season. St. Joe's has won four of the last five Niagara Cup titles.
The Marauders then went on to win the state Catholic High School Athletic Association title, a 5-2 triumph over St. Anthony's of South Huntington. St. Joe's didn't lose in its last 22 games, only tying one of them.
"I can tell you that this was a really, really special year and this is a special group," St. Joe's coach Rich Crozier said. "Parents...they are the ones that, when these boys are 4 and 5 and 6 years old, they're the ones taking them to the ice rink at 6 a.m., 7 a.m. for them to work on their skills and then when they're 15, 16, 17, they come to me and my great coaching staff gets this glory."
