Police: Teacher charged with forcible touching may have more victims

A teacher from Allegany County is accused of forcibly touching a student in Steuben County and authorities believe there are more victims, the State Police said Wednesday.

Thomas M. Wight, 26, of Cuba, was charged Tuesday in connection with an incident police said occurred off school property while he was teaching at Arkport Central Schools in Arkport.

Wight is accused of forcibly touching a 16-year-old student. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said.

State police said they were notified of a possible sexual abuse case on Saturday and found Wight had been communicating over Snapchat with a 16-year-old while he worked in Dansville in Livingston County.

Wight has previously taught in Cuba-Rushford and Fillmore Central schools, police said. School districts affected by the investigation have been notified, authorities said.

Wight was arraigned in Friendship Town Court and remanded to the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information to call 585-344-6200.
