Haz-mat called to Lockport house fire; 3 dogs rescued

Firefighters rescued three dogs Monday night from a fire in a multi-family home in Lockport.

A haz-mat team also responded to the scene at 8 Ashley Place, where a fire broke out shortly before 10 p.m., the Lockport Fire Department said.

Authorities have not disclosed why the haz-mat team was called. Police described the team's presence as "precautionary."

The dogs were rescued from the second-floor apartment, according to the fire department. Damage to the house was estimated at $35,000.
