Sister M. Winifred Fox, 88, cook at St. Mary's School for the Deaf

Sister M. Winifred Fox, a cook and master baker, died last Tuesday in the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse, Clarence. She was 88.

Born in Blasdell, the former Marcelline Fox was a 1946 graduate of Our Lady of Victory Academy in Lackawanna and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1949. She professed her final vows in August 1955.

Known for her hearty laugh, she served for 60 years in the kitchens of St. Mary's School for the Deaf, Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse and the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence. Her macaroni and cheese, potato salad and hot fudge sauce were favorites of the students and the Sisters. Her cookies, candy and fruit cakes were best-sellers at the Sisters' bazaars. She retired in 2010.

An avid fan of the Bills and the Yankees, she regularly organized Super Bowl parties and supported sports activities locally.

Survivors included two sisters, Rita Dendler and Patricia Barbus; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13 in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence.
