Jihadi terrorism began long before 9/11 attacks
I agree with the June 5 Another Voice writer that all acts of politically motivated violence should be labeled as terrorism, whether left wing, right wing, jihadi or otherwise. However, I think his insistence on counting the death toll from jihadi terrorism in the United States only after 9/11 is arbitrary and incorrect, since jihadi terrorism in our country started in the early 1990s with the murder of Ari Halberstam and with the first World Trade Center bombing. The death toll from jihadi terrorism in our country therefore numbers in the thousands, far exceeding the number of Americans killed by all other varieties of domestic terrorists. Proper threat estimation cannot and should not be based on distortions of statistics.
