A 96-year-old Wheatfield woman was hospitalized following a violent home invasion early Sunday, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
The 102nd Street resident told deputies that she heard knocking on her windows sometime before 4 a.m. that prompted her to get out of bed to check it out. When she walked into her living room, she came face to face with a man who grabbed her, pushed her and asked for money.
The thief then tore through part of the victim's house before taking cash and electronics. A news release from the Sheriff's Office didn't detail the items taken.
He also took the keys to the victim's vehicle, which wasn't identified, from her kitchen table and drove off. The vehicle was recovered later, burned, in Niagara Falls.
The victim was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The Sheriff Office's Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident and no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information on the incident should contact Investigator Brett Thompson during normal business hours at 438-3332 or call Sheriff Dispatch during off hours at 438-3393.
