Eight qualifiers who will gain entry into the main draw of the Sargent & Collins, LLP Men’s $15,000 Futures Tournament will be determined today at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville.
Four matches of the qualifying draw will begin at 11 a.m. with three more at noon or later and one not before 4 p.m. will follow.
Samuel Monette of Canada, who at No. 3 is the highest-seeded player remaining in the qualifying bracket will face Yates Johnson of New Braunfels, Texas, who played in college at Louisiana-Lafayette in one of the 11 a.m. matches. The late match will have Alexandru Gozun of Moldova facing Christian Lakoseljac of King City, Ont., a former Penn State player.
Monette needed three sets Sunday to advance over Dartmouth College product Charles Broom, a 19-year-old from Hertfordshire, England, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Gozun, a standout at the University of South Florida rallied from a first-set defeat to top Sid Donarski of Quebec, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
