Project labor agreement set for Northland redevelopment site

Mayor Byron W. Brown announced a community workforce agreement for the Northland Corridor Redevelopment project to transform the 35-acre site into an industrial hub for business and a state workforce training center.

The project labor agreement between the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation and the Buffalo Building and Construction Trades Council sets goals for the employment of 25 percent minorities, 5 percent women, 30 percent city residents and 20 percent apprentice hours.

It also guarantees entry of up to 20 individuals from the project's ZIP code of 14215 and surrounding ZIP codes into the Buffalo Building Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Program, which is an eight-week paid training program.

Brown made the announcement Thursday at the Northland site and was joined by representatives from BUDC, members of the trades council and members of the Concerned Clergy of Western New York.
