Blue Star Memorial honoring armed forces to be dedicated in Eden

Eighteen months of planning and raising money culminates Saturday, June 10 with the dedication of a Blue Star Memorial marker just off Route 62 in Eden.

The Eden Garden Study Club is organizing the ceremony at 11 a.m. on the grounds of American Legion Newell Faulkner Post 880 near Eden Elementary School. The marker is next to the helicopter.

School children will sing and a bell choir will play patriotic music, and members of the legion will offer a 21-gun salute, said garden club member Marlene Sullivan.

The garden club has two years to complete plantings around the $1,400 marker, she said.

The marker is a program of the National Council of Garden Clubs, which began in 1945 after World War II. The marker honors men and women who served, will serve or are currently serving in any of the United States Armed Forces.
